Shoulder Surgery Types

Shoulder Replacement Surgery

Shoulder replacement surgery comes in a few different forms, each designed to address specific conditions and help you regain strength and mobility. A total shoulder replacement (anatomic) is idea for severe arthritis with a preserved rotator cuff. In an anatomic shoulder replacement the damaged ball-and-socket parts of the shoulder are replaced like-for-like with a prosthetic that mimics the natural anatomy of your shoulder. A reverse total shoulder replacement is used in cases with severe bone loss or with irreparable rotator cuff disease. In a reverse total shoulder replacement, the positions of the ball and socket are reversed, allowing the muscle that wraps around your shoulder (deltoid) to take over the work of the damaged rotator cuff. The result? Better stability and improved range of motion.

Shoulder Arthroscopy

Shoulder arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure designed to diagnose and treat a variety of shoulder issues without the need for large incisions. Using a tiny camera called an arthroscope, Dr. Turow can look inside your shoulder joint and address problems like rotator cuff tears, impingement, or cartilage damage with precision. The benefit of shoulder arthroscopy is its ability to provide relief with less soft tissue damage. Small incisions can mean less pain, faster recovery, and a quicker return to the activities.

Shoulder Surgery Recovery Time

Recovery after shoulder surgery can vary between each patient, depending on the type of surgery and your individual needs. Minimally invasive procedures like shoulder arthroscopy, may allow for quicker recovery while more complex surgeries, such as a shoulder replacement, may require a longer recovery times.

No matter the surgery, you’ll receive a personalised recovery plan that includes physical therapy and tailored exercises to rebuild strength and restore mobility. Dr. Turow and his team will guide you through this process, ensuring you get the best outcome possible.
