Elbow Surgery Types

The elbow is a complex joint with several joint surfaces, ligaments and tendons. Multiple nerves lie in close proximity to the elbow joint. There are various types of elbow surgery that are designed to address different pathologies. Minimal invasive elbow surgery, such as elbow arthroscopy, uses a tiny camera to both diagnose and treat problems like arthritis, loose cartilage, or ligament injuries in the elbow joint.

If you experience numbness, tingling, or weakness in the hand, you may be suffering from ulnar nerve entrapment. Ulnar nerve release is aimed at removing pressure of the ulnar nerve, restoring sensation and strength to the arm and hand. In cases of severe elbow arthritis, an elbow replacement may be indicated. Elbow replacements are much less common than other replacements, such as shoulder replacements, but can nonetheless be a reliable way to relieve long-standing elbow pain.

The elbow is one of the more commonly fractured joints, often resulting from a fall onto an outstretched arm. Due to the complexity of the elbow joint, each surgery is carefully tailored to meet your unique needs, with a focus on reducing pain and restoring movement while minimising stiffness.

Elbow Surgery Recovery Time

Recovery after elbow surgery can vary between each patient, depending on the type of surgery and your individual needs. Minimally invasive techniques, may allow for quicker recovery while more complex surgeries may require a longer recovery times.

No matter the surgery, you’ll receive a personalised recovery plan that includes physical therapy and tailored exercises to rebuild strength and restore mobility. Dr. Turow and his team will guide you through this process, ensuring you get the best outcome possible.
